Asisat Oshoala is showing the world exactly why she has been chosen as African Player of the Year on multiple occasions.
The striker’s involvement in Nigeria’s fixture against Australia was doubtful after she picked up a knock in training, but was substituted on by manager Randy Waldrum in the 65th minute.
And it didn’t take her long to make an impact.
Just seven minutes after stepping on the pitch, Oshoala pounced on a lacklustre ball and transformed it into something magical.
Weaving past two Matildas players, the Barcelona striker coolly slotted the ball home to ignite huge celebrations with the Super Falcons bench.
But it isn’t just her goal scoring ability that has the world talking.
With less than half an hour to play, Oshoala’s substitution – along with Esther Okoronkwo’s – changed the game for Nigeria.
What was previously a good performance, was quickly reshaped into a historic one as Oshoala’s confidence and ability influenced her side into believing that a win was well and truly in their hands.
