International artiste rising into stardom was honored at the recent Los Angeles Nollywood Film Association Awards (LANFA).
Idam ‘MC Chido‘ Okoro was recognized as a rising star, first. Then he also performed at the event.
He told Being Nigerian he was very grateful for the double opportunity.
“That was my first award ever,” he said, adding he appreciated LANFA for recognizing his hard work.
He thanked his fans too in Maryland where he is putting in everything it takes to make his mark as an international artiste.
Breaking into the international scene, with all its competition, is not easy, he admitted.
“It’s been tough operating in the U.S. and trying to showcase your talent back home,” said MC Chido.
That’s how MC Chido, from Ebonyi, eastern Nigeria, has chosen to operate—across the Atlantic.
According to him, he has some of the top producers in Nigeria working with him.
He believes that is why his works are of international standards.
“I have my most of my songs produced from home by these producers, which makes it easier having home flavor in my music.”
‘After Party’, one of the songs in his coming album was produced with such kind of cross-fertilization of ideas.
The work, entitled Prelude, is a 15-track album. He said he is working on the tenth now, a hit like the remaining ones.
He is also doing a collabo with a couple of superstars in Nigeria, Cameroon, and Tanzania.
Again, he said doing music in the U.S. is a long journey which requires you be passionate about what you do—to survive the hurdles.
“You have to be ready financially, and mentally—for the criticism and all that.”
He advised other artistes to strive and find a way around those challenges if that is what they have decided to do for the rest of their lives.
